Telstra has lost another senior executive, with the telco’s group executive for new business, Cynthia Whelan, taking a job at Scentre Group, the owner of Westfield malls.
Ms Whelan, who has been the head of Telstra’s new business portfolio since 2015, is also the chairman of Foxtel, Telstra Health and a director at Telstra Ventures.
Telstra staff were informed of the departure via an internal memo, with Ms Whelan finishing her tenure on December 22.
She is expected to stay on in her role at Foxtel, as Telstra and News Corporation, the publisher of The Australian, start to put together their plans to combine Foxtel and Fox Sports into a single sports and entertainment pay-TV player.
Telstra Health will continue to operate as a stand-alone unit within Telstra after Ms Whelan’s departure, with managing director Mary Foley to report to group executive Brendon Riley. The unit will have separate operating and financial models.
Despite spending more than $200 million over the last two and a half years on creating a comprehensive e-health platform, Telstra Health has not lived up to Telstra’s expectations. Ms Whelan’s departure comes amid speculation that the unit may be put on the block.

One to keep a close eye on for the New Year I guess!

Telstra Health's founder Shane Solomon knew. He brought HealthSmart to Victoria! He cobbled together Telstra Health's huge portfolio of legacy software systems spending over $250 million in doing so. Well, if he didn't know then that "Health Care Could Be So Complicated" he probably knows that now! One would hope so.
