The following dropped into view late yesterday in the form of a forwarded e-mail, under the NEHTA CEO’s authorship, from a kind source who will not be disclosed. As I understand it what is said is as follows.
In summary:
1. NEHTA is very happy about the three years funding ongoing funding.
2. Decisions about the fate of the IEHR and its timetable for development / implementation are up to Government for the future.
Reading between the lines of what I have seen does not seem too hard here. Essentially NEHTA is to continue doing what it was meant to do while all the forward plans are under review into the future.
Certainly it seems the IEHR has slipped down the list until other issues have been addressed as I have been suggesting for a good while now!
An amazingly sensible outcome in my view.
We await further developments with Health Infrastructure Fund and the like!
Interestingly there is still no comment on the NEHTA web site about the COAG funding as I type this.

Of course we’re happy. Why wouldn’t we be? And, “reading between the lines”, you seem to be happy too. It must be that time of the year.
David, have you ever considered getting yourself a little hobby? Seems that ou have too much time on your hands and not enough constructive things to say! Go forth and conquer in the delights of Monopoly, or even- Sudoku.
Two things.
First you now know even critical comments are published when relevant.
Second, I say a huge heap of positive stuff about what others are doing - that I carefully research - and I am deeply disappointed about what I see from those who suggest - like you - that I do something else. This blog goes quiet when I see decent work being done by people who really understand the health system in OZ!
I suggest you get on with what I assume you are paid to do - and leave me to assess if I see you are making any difference, saving the odd error or life etc.

Then perhaps the site should NOT go quiet when "decent work being done by people who really understand the health system in OZ!" is actually happening? Maybe then you won't come across as quite such a one-sided whinger?
One thing to say.
Show us the evidence E-Health is being well run and well delivered in OZ. The 200 or so who visit this site a day don't seem to think so as far as I can tell!

Well said David. Permit me to respond to you correspondent and say - it is not a matter of a one-sided whinger or anything else; far from it.
David's blog has much to commend it. Not only is it a very useful source of information about developments and advances in healthIT from other parts of the world, but, more importantly it provides a sharp spotlight on the shortcomings, incompetencies and wasteful projects that we can ill afford and that do more harm than anything else to successfully advancing the use of IT in health directed at improving the efficiencies and the delivery of health services to the Australian community.
The criticisms that have so frequently been made in the past by David on his blogspot have, in the main, been fairly well balanced and backed by plenty of substance.
I look forward to the day when he becomes less critical because then, and only then, will I and so many of his colleagues know that at long last things are happening for the better and that will probabaly be a reflection of the fact that someone finally started to listen to some other points of view - all based on hard won experience and knowledge gained in the field over many years.
