"The Government will provide $140.6 million in 2014-15 for the continued operation of the Personally Controlled Electronic Health Record (PCEHR) system while the Government finalises its response to the review of the PCEHR.
This measure supports the Government’s commitment for a shared electronic health record for patients."

The PCEHR in limbo means there is no incentive for anyone to get serious about using it.
Of all the decisions - keep it, trash it, or think about it - the one they picked is the worst.

Goodness gracious - 70 government agencies to be scrapped !!!!!! and NEHTA is not among them !!!!!
Could it be that NEHTA is doing the heavy lifting??? Lifting the gold bullion right off the table.
With the PCEHR being one of the biggest scandals of fiscal wastage ever it is amazing the media are totally unaware.
David, with my limited abilities to read and decipher some of these government documents I did comes away with a rough calculation of input into the PCEHR and the likely outcomes (zilch or minimal).
2012-2013 ~$1b on the PCEHR-what have they got to show for this.
2014-5. $140m-a comparative drop in the ocean.
Also 'giving the problem of health financing back to the States' means they really have no idea what they are doing. What have the States achieved so far? Not many successes there.
On reading the budget notes reminded me of the IOM publication, "The computer-based record the "essential" technology for health care.
Most of the 140 million will probably go to Accenture to keep the PCEHR running.
It would probably cost twice that to cancel the deal with Accenture and decommission the system.
They took the cheapest option while they try to find a better way.
No problem though, as they can always blame the previous government, and they do.
