The last few weeks have been pretty sobering in Australia due to the combination of bushfire and drought.
The number of lives lost and property destroyed has been truly awful but additionally, in a number of areas, we have seen a quite devastating loss of communications infrastructure with mobile and fixed line services out and internet access lost.
It was only while this was being reported and we were hearing about the 3-4000 people who were trapped at Mallacoota in East Gippsland did I realise just how totally useless the #myHR would be in such an emergency.
Without internet access and remembering your complex username a password your data might as well be stored in Outer Mongolia!
And when you think about it any similarly large scale natural (or man-made disaster) could cause similar infrastructure failure and a similar outcome.
A small card in your purse / wallet with the relevant info is likely to be a much better bet when it really counts.
It seems the ADHA has designed the #myHR for just mini-issues not when there is truly severe disruption! These fires serve to remind us that simple is best when your basic information needs to be available - paper betters fancy technology!

A couple of years ago, Tim Kelsey rang me and asked if I agreed and conceded that the most important use of myhr was in the emergency department where it could save lives.
My response was that there was no evidence or justification for such a claim.
I stand by that response.
IMHO Tim has not changed his view.
The fires. It is impossible to predict which politician is going to be the first to comment on the BUDGET SURPLUS.
And whoever it is - WHAT exactly will be said!
Actually you easily login to your record through the MyGov which has the password saved - easy as. Interestingly I have been making an insurance claim and it has been very helpful to go through the dates that I have visited doctors which are all in the record.

and if you can't remeber your mygov password and there is no phone service so 2FA doesn't work?
The My Health Record may be empty or filled with old info. Which is why many people are making sure their essential health information is in their bags/cars/wallets.
It's ridiculous that this is the case in this day and age.
The Health Minister and the Secretary of the Health Department announced the immediate termination of all funding of the ADHA and cancellation of the My Health Record Project. The $459 million per annum which will be freed up will be freed up will be redeployed to the Federal Government's $2 billion Fire Emergency Fund.
I was overwhelmed and thrilled to hear this news until I suddenly woke up from a very bad dream.
In case of an emergency a paramedic can access your My Health Record (assuming connectivity and you have your Medicare card to hand), although there may be nothing of use in it but your GP might not be able to help you.

Excuse the French but someone's got their priorities all f**ked up.
Do we know how many GP offices have burnt down? Given that most practices are not using cloud software, wouldn't the medical records for all patients in a practice go up in smoke? Isn't that a use-case for My Health Record?
Not sure ’offsite backup for small GP practices’ would read well for the Myhr. Smells of desperation.

Not really, might be a use case for cloud. A GP clinic is also a business, are you suggesting the MYHR also stores all administrative and financial data?
