Flash – No Mention of E-Health In COAG Communiqué

The July 2, 2009 Council Of Australian Government Meeting Communiqué has just been released.

Go here to review.

There is no mention of e-Health and little on Health (Except material on “Closing the Gap”) in general.

The one slightly relevant comment is here:

“As part of the Integrated Strategy, the Commonwealth is to provide an additional $46.4 million over four years to fund work undertaken by national data agencies, such as the Australian Bureau of Statistics and the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, to improve the evidence base and address data gaps.” – Page 2.

No hits in the document on e-Health. Seems either nothing was done or it was too small to mention.

  1. Maybe the flurry of negative comments ahead of the meeting about NEHTA made them feel uncomfortable about what was being proposed, and so elected to not table it, or more likely they are waiting for the reform commission report and will then 'do' health in one big hit.

  2. Watch for a late Friday afternoon release of the NHHRC. I am not sure they are sure enough of what they are doing to do a release at more public times. We shall see!

I am certainly glad they have done nothing until we have all seen the NHHRC report!
