Obviously blog readers are trying to tell NEHTA something here! I think NEHTA needs to do a little more work in this area to regain any form of informatics community trust and support

We will see if anyone is listening.

Thanks to all who voted.

  1. We decided a long time ago that trying to tell NEHTA anything was a complete waste of time and effort. We also decided that as leaders in our space we had to do 'the job' then talk with NEHTA and invite it to 'join us' on our terms or continue going its own way.

We concluded that our widespread customer base would remain loyal to us. We also felt that NEHTA attracted too much adverse commentary, above and below the waterline, to be anything other than unwanted ballast despite its good intentions.

The most positive outcome we have experienced is that NEHTA has helped us to strengthen our position in the market and our relationships with our customers. We remain confident our decision to forge ahead and do the job our way was sound.

Despite our stance we have kept an open mind and tried to remain as flexible as possible to avail ourselves of whatever NEHTA might have to offer that we could use which should it be beneficial to our business.

  2. I wonder who the 'we' is?. eRx, Medisecure or someone else?

  3. After attending the NBN Summit in Sydney last week and listening to the Secretary admit there was no money available for ehealth and for any money to become available for ehealth projects it would have to be found (taken from) other areas of health funding with the Minister's blessing and that was a very difficult conversation to have. It was clear to us all that industry has to find ways of overcoming the barriers without government assistance.

  4. That perspective just reveals how 'detached from reality' Ms Halton and her Minister are. Has no on pointed out to them investments in Health IT actually make money and improve quality and efficiency over the longer term.

Investment of this sort is a core Government function in my view! That's what her e-Health Strategy says at least!

  5. Interesting reportage of NBN meeting and the discussion on ehealth is here

BTW two other candidates for the "we" might be Med Objects or Argusconnect.

  6. I will put my money on iSoft but Healthlinks shouldn't be overlooked either and nor should HCN or Genie. In fact come to think of it, it probably pretty well reflects the thinking of most vendors which would make sense. Anyone that changed their direction 5 years ago to follow NEHTA and accept its promises at face value would be out of business today.
