"This simply shows how blinded your readers are and how out of touch you lot are from what is really going on. NEHTA has probably the best technical leadership it could possibly hope for. This year will see SMD solved, PCEHR purring along and NASH and HI refactored to meet changing demands. The only downside is that this blog will no longer have a role

When I first read this I wondered if it was serious - and felt it needed to be treated as a parody. Re-reading it came to me just how silly it actually is - and really confirms that someone is wandering somewhere in a very large swamp of confusion - or is a good comedian!
Look at the internal in-consistency?
The best technical leadership leads to NASH and HI still (after many years) wandering in the wilderness.
The best technical leadership leads to SMD still hardly being used compared with the private sector offerings of Healthlink, Argus, Medical Objects and so on.
The best technical leadership leads to a PCEHR ‘humming along’. Of course it is as there are no users to interfere with the virtual silence of the ‘humming’ made by all that money flowing out the door.
I would really like the blog to not need to exist but with commentators like the above, who just might believe what they write (although I very much doubt it!) I feel a need to shine a little light into some very dark, very useless and very expensive places.
Ï suspect it is fair to say the readership of this blog are rather better informed than our friend cited above....
Happy New Year to all who are holding onto their sanity!
David.
Note: Comment 3 from Bernard is also spot on!

WTF is the former health minister ingesting? http://www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/customs-staff-to-be-armed-at-airports-new-immigration-minister-announces-20141230-12fmog.html
ReplyDeleteSomeone else smoking something funny or otherwise deluded, re the likely benefits of the fast-disappearing-into-the-ether Medical Research Fund.

Really?
I did a bit of google research on HI, NASH, PCEHR, NEHTA National Design Manager, PCEHR design authority. There is an interesting pattern and one worthly of a few questions. The art of sacrificing those around you to climb a management ladder seem to be the order of the day, who will be next?.
ReplyDeleteSorry for the cryptic tone but NEHTA lawyers etc....
David, your responses are very appropriate. I constantly have the feeling of chewing Alfoil when individuals write to this site as "Anonymous". I do not even read most of the postings under these synonyms as they lack credibility. Your site is read and valued by many of us out there trying to improve health care through the effective use of HIT. Of course we know what happened to the "messenger" John The Baptist!
ReplyDeleteSMD will never purr along because it "solves" the wrong problem. It makes the simple things complicated while fails to address the real problems that occur with when you interconnect systems that don't implement standards to a reasonable level of competency.
ReplyDeleteIts like inventing an adapter that allows any engine management computer to be used in any car and then wondering why your Suzuki Alto doesn't perform like a Ferrari when you transplant the Ferrari computer. In fact it doesn't even work at all.
Interestingly the Edward Snowden documents suggest that PGP remains secure to snooping while much more modern security has been compromised. Honestly, PGP encrypted email would work reasonably well if systems actually implemented solid support for the underlying HL7V2 messages as they have all the other messaging requirements built in. SMD cannot work well because the systems at either end are not compliant to standards, an issue that NEHTA appears blind to, out of ignorance.
NEHTA is readvertising job for senior clinical usability analyst first advertised in October, guess it's not an attractive prospect

@ Terry Hannan:
ReplyDeleteIt is a concern your view on Anonymous posting is self-contradictory. It is the precise reason that Anonymous posters do not want to become martyrs for eHealth in the spirit of "John The Baptist" that they prudently choose to remain "Anonymous" (which is not a "synonym" BTW...).
The Anonymous posting channel is important and the views put forward in this mode should speak for themselves and stand on their own intellectual, critical and credible merits, regardless of who the "Name" is behind the post and position, as that is not a true test of any credibility!
As an example from the States as to the why of its importance:
"Protections for anonymous speech are vital to democratic discourse. Allowing dissenters to shield their identities frees them to express critical, minority views . . . Anonymity is a shield from the tyranny of the majority. . . . It thus exemplifies the purpose behind the Bill of Rights, and of the First Amendment in particular: to protect unpopular individuals from retaliation . . . at the hand of an intolerant society."
And with the petty, small-minded and vindictive management and leadership that operates sadly within this nation's ehealth power structures, this BLOG and the Anonymous vehicle shall remain a critical means to speak truth to power in a reasonable manner that may actually make the slightest bit of difference in a very tragic and dysfunctional ehealth political landscape...
@ Terry Hannan -- please remove the tinfoil from your mouth, keep posting your welcomed views on this site and read or dismiss Anonymous postings on their own merits alone, taking the good posts with the bad as that is what free speech and liberal democratic societies are all about.
Happy New Year to All!
