Privacy, confidentiality and My Health Record

 My Health Record is currently being introduced across Australia and records have been created for all Australians, unless they chose to opt out.
Large numbers of pharmacies, medical practices, hospitals and other health providers are now connected to the My Health Record.
For community pharmacies, My Health Record provides a revolutionary amount of health information for pharmacists to refer to when providing healthcare to a customer.
It enables pharmacists to make better-informed decisions about the health and medicine needs of customers of the pharmacy.
Pharmacists and pharmacy staff need to be aware of the additional privacy considerations relating to use of the My Health Record system.
Guild Learning and Development has partnered with the Australian Digital Health Agency to develop an online module titled ‘Privacy, confidentiality and My Health Record’.
This is the second of two modules to be launched on this topic which have been written especially for pharmacy assistants and dispensary assistants. The first module titled Introducing My Health Record was launched last month.
This module provides a refresher on privacy and confidentiality essentials for pharmacy assistants and dispensary assistants, and looks at best practice approaches that pharmacy assistants can adopt to maintain customer expectations of confidentiality.
To enrol in this course please visit https://guilded.guild.org.au
Please contact Guild Learning and Development on 1800 049 056 or email learninganddevelopment@guild.org.au for more information.
Guild Learning and Development thanks the Australian Digital Health Agency for the support and funding provided in the development of this course.
----- End release.
So having flogged the use of the #myHR in pharmacies remorselessly it seems the Guild and the ADHA have realized having access to the #myHR in all these pharmacies – with all the young unregistered and unidentified pharmacy assistants and sales assistants – might not be anywhere near best practice from a privacy and confidentiality point of view and that some firm finger wagging at all these staff cannot go astray – even recognizing that hospitals and police stations are also filled with proven access users for less than honest purposes when it suits them – despite dire warnings!
I suppose they believe they are doing something, but it would be better to fully secure the access points with two-factor authentication and automatic prompt inactivity log-out.
I won’t hold my breath until the first leak becomes public!
David.

It is worth reminding oneself of the objective of the ANAO's Audit of the My Health Record which is stated to be “to assess the effectiveness of the Australian Digital Health Agency’s implementation of the My Health Record system” and within that scope the ANAO proposes to examine whether:
1. implementation of the My Health Record system promotes achievement of its purposes;
2. the My Health Record system risks are appropriately assessed, managed and monitored;
3. monitoring and evaluation arrangements for the My Health Record system are effective.

1 is easy - nobody knows what its purposes is so, that's and OK.
2 is easy - they've got military grade security, so that's OK.
3 is easy - they produce regular stats, so that's OK.

nothing to worry about, all OK
