Queensland Health's IT problems can be overcome, new eHealth head says

The new head of eHealth Queensland insists he can turn the troubled Queensland Health IT system into a world-class tool, but only if all the state’s health bodies work together on it.
Damian Green took up the position last month, following nearly a year of trouble affecting Queensland’s health IT systems.
His predecessor, Richard Ashby, resigned in January following conflict of interest concerns.
Dr Ashby had been referred to the Crime and Corruption Commission for an alleged inappropriate relationship with a staff member involved in the rollout of the Patient Administration System (PAS).
The CCC eventually found there was "insufficient evidence" to proceed with action against Dr Ashby.
Other than Dr Ashby, eHealth Queensland’s chief technology officer Warren Prentice also left in recent months and clinical leads on the project Dr Gordon Laurie and Renea Collins both resigned.
Meanwhile, there were growing concerns with the Integrated Electronic Medical Record (ieMR) system, developed by US medical giant Cerner, which was being rapidly rolled out across a number of hospitals around the state.
Clinicians were concerned the system was not fit for purpose and did not mesh with existing software systems in some hospitals, putting patients at risk.
Mr Green was previously the head of digital transformation for the Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service, which put the ieMR in place in April, and said he could bring that experience to bear as the ieMR rollout continued.
"We rolled out [the ieMR] across all our hospitals from April to the beginning of May without any clinical incidents," Mr Green told Brisbane Times.

The Cairns Post revealed yesterday that the $35 million Regional eHealth Project, which was due to be completed last month, has been delayed.
There are also some follow-up articles where the Opposition gets excited etc.
It rather looks like a new clean up job is required! Time will tell again I guess.
