Neighbourhood Centre selected to deliver free ‘Your Health in Your Hands’ program

News Of The Area - Modern MediaJuly 10, 2022

HEALTH websites and apps abound today and more than ever, people are relying on the internet to look after their health and wellbeing with varying degrees of online technical skills.

Coffs Harbour Neighbourhood Centre has been selected as a community hub to deliver the free ‘Your Health in Your Hands’ program.

“It supports our community to improve their skills and confidence in being able to access and use digital skills online to improve and monitor health and wellbeing for them and their families,” Di Woods, Manager at Coffs Harbour Neighbourhood Centre, told News Of The Area.

Digital health literacy skills are helpful in ensuring every Australian can make informed, confident choices when supporting their health and wellbeing online.

Donna Hunt, Digital Mentor at Coffs Harbour Neighbourhood Centre said, “With more and more health services being offered digitally, helping people build these skills opens up options such as seeing a doctor or specialist via Telehealth, accessing mental health support, filling prescriptions remotely, and being in control of your own health information.

“We’ll be running free in-person support sessions to show you how easy, convenient and safe managing your health online can be.

“Our Your Health in Your Hands support sessions will teach you how to manage your health information and services securely and with confidence online using reliable websites and services.”

Sessions will be held Friday mornings from 16 July.

Each session will include a mix of demonstrations, conversations and practical activities so everyone will be able to get the support they need during the sessions.

Information will cover a range of topics to help people manage and monitor health and wellbeing for themselves and their families.

Some of the information will include learning about MyGov, My Health Record, how to find reliable websites for health and wellbeing information and finding and downloading health related apps.

“We want to help people across our community explore ways that they can feel more independent and knowledgeable in regard to their health.

“Supporting them to find reliable health-related information and use quality online tools can help improve aspects of their life and complement the support they receive from their healthcare professionals,” said Donna.

Here is an example of the sort of propaganda being put out.

My Health Record supports better care for older Australians

  11 July 2022

My Health Record offers significant potential to improve care coordination and health outcomes, particularly for older Australians.

This is because older Australians generally experience a higher prevalence of chronic and complex conditions, polypharmacy and interact more frequently with the healthcare system.

One way to support your older patients is to confirm their key health information is available in My Health Record by uploading an accurate and up-to-date shared health summary. This will help ensure your patients get the best possible care when they are visiting other health care providers or if they go to hospital.

For patients with cognitive issues, having medicines information available in their My Health Record, including brand name, active ingredients, strength and dosage instructions, can decrease the burden on patients and reliance on their memory. Having key information available in My Health Record can also save your practice time, by reducing the number of requests for information from your practice. Consider making the upload of shared health summaries for older patients’ part of routine practice, such as on completion of a 75+ health assessment.

To learn more, register for a My Health Record practical demonstration session on the Australian Digital Health Agency website.

Nice to see all these claims on accuracy of medication records when we all know of the range of errors people have found when the #myHR contents is checked!

Also what on earth is the Orwellian Good Things Foundation?

Here is the answer:

Good Things Foundation Australia is a social change charity, helping people to improve their lives through digital.

We have built, upskilled and manage the Australian Government funded Be Connected Network of 3,500 community partners and deliver the $20 million grants program to support people over 50 to learn essential digital skills. 880,000 people have been engaged and supported by the Be Connected digital literacy program to date.

We coordinate the national digital inclusion campaign Get Online Week which last year supported 23,500 people through online and offline digital skills events. With the support of the Australian Digital Health Agency and our network of community organisations, we are assisting adults of all ages to improve their digital health literacy through our Health My Way program.

Good Things Foundation has run digital inclusion projects in the UK for over ten years through the 5,000 strong Online Centres Network and worked in Australia since 2017.

Looks to me rather like a paid propaganda unit for the ADHA.  (note in the last year they evangelized on the #myHR to only about 6000 victims!)

The bottom line here is that if the #myHR was so useful and valuable we would not need all the hoopla and to be paying all these random propagandists.

Surely, after almost a decade, they would just give up and let is die - as they should - and divert the funds to initiatives that actually deliver what people need in this space. Lord knows the gaps are huge!

Others may disagree but I see this as a vast waste of money selling a failing program. It really is time for a new, improved approach!

We could also re-purpose the Good Things Foundation to more useful activities....or just kill it off!

David.
