I think the AIDH lives in a small bubble and makes a difference to those in the bubble but probably not a lot beyond that and not in a measurable sense. They have managed to make informatics a certifications commodity- much like consultancies have with Agile and business transformation - we can make you digital health ready for a small fee come and join the cult of informatics.
Question - how can I check if my instruction not to have a record created has been honoured - without actually triggering the creation of a waste of space?
And is this nugget still in place?
The Australian Digital Health Agency's chief operations officer Bettina McMahon said activation would typically occur “when a clinician tries to view the information or when a document is uploaded”, such as when a dispense record is sent from a community pharmacy.
An agency spokesperson told iTnews that two years of data “may be uploaded” if the healthcare provider accesses the record first, but that this was at the provider's discretion.
There's a difference between creation and activation of a MyHR.
You can create one (or have it created) but it needs activation before any data can be uploaded. If someone applies for one they get a letter with a validation code that has to be used to activate it.
If you have said you don't want a MyHR or have had it cancelled then one should not be created for you.
I don't know how you can check to see if you have one and/or it has been activated apart from calling the My Health Record help line: 1800 723 471 (option 1), available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The old myhealthrecord.gov.au website seems to have disappeared. It originally had a lot of explanatory information but that has gradually faded away.
Now you get redirected to https://www.digitalhealth.gov.au/
If you click on the link to go to My Health Record it takes you to my.gov.au which has nothing about MyHR.
If you want to find out about MyHR as a patient you can click on the "for healthcare provider" tab.
One of the first things it says is "My Health Record is a secure online summary of key patient health information" which of course it isn't. If the patient and their GP decide to upload key data and keep it accurate and up to date they it might be. Otherwise it will only contain sporadic data from healthcare providers who upload data and maybe MBS/PBS data.
August 26, 2023, 8:33 AM - You should be able to verify through GP practice software (at least the Australian ones). As for the second question, I would be surprised if this is no longer the case - it is not in ADHA's interest. (Some might say - not within their understanding of who it works under the hood).
Thank you Bernard and Robert. Shame that out of all those millions spent a simple citizen lookup feature is to much to ask.
