MELBOURNE-BASED DOCTORS LAUNCH NEW ONLINE HEALTH PLATFORM ‘HEALTHSTENCIL’ FOR EFFECTIVE DOCTOR-PATIENT COMMUNICATION

The Free App Will Revolutionise The Way Doctors Design Health Plans For Their Patients

Melbourne – As the COVID-19 pandemic drove industries such as the health sector to transform the traditional face-to-face consultation with doctors into a virtual space, Melbourne-based doctors Dr. Jonathan Wee and Dr. Aaron Wong saw the challenges that the ‘new normal’ posed and designed a one-of-its-kind online health platform – HealthStencil.com that will take doctor-patient communication to the next level. With an aim to improve patient education, HealthStencil.com is the ultimate solution for the long-standing problem of poor and inaccurate memory for medical information. The free online tool will allow doctors to create and share health plans with patients that are easy-to-understand and accessible, without exposing their personal or professional email addresses.

Created at the start of the pandemic, HealthStencil.com has since grown into a suite of online tools that help doctors write and share personalised health plans for patients to access on their mobile browser, anywhere, anytime. The online application is easy-to-use, where doctors send a link to a unique and dedicated webpage through email, SMS or QR code. The application also offers a secure file-sharing portal that encrypts and protects sensitive patient information. Through this portal, doctors can share files such as test results, pathology or imaging request forms with patients. The files are password-protected and are automatically deleted from the secured server after 30 days - a critical feature for modern cybersecurity. Patients can use it straight away and no application download or registration is required. HealthStencil.com also has integrated video conferencing capabilities, a library of over 10,000 patient handouts to search and share, and a growing network of healthcare providers.

The online health application has already started gaining popularity amongst noted Australian doctors. A well-known Brisbane-based general practitioner (GP) says, “Hi HealthStencil team, I just wanted to say I bloody love your work. Saw your app via the CCIM page and use it for nearly every patient.” Another eminent GP based in Melbourne adds “I share post-operative care instructions to my patients using a fixed printed HealthStencil QR Code on the wall. I don't have to give out paper anymore, and I can rest assured they won't lose their instructions.” A reputed ophthalmologist in Melbourne also comments, "HealthStencil helps me communicate complex instructions with my ophthalmology patients. They love having their instructions, educational videos and images on their phone.” Not only have the doctors enjoyed using HealthStencil.com, but the patients have also expressed their ease and comfort in using the application.

About HealthStencil.com and its founders:

Born out of a need to design clear and concise patient health plans and share patient files in a secured manner, HealthStencil.com is the creation of two friends from medical school who are now established doctors in Melbourne - Dr. Jonathan Wee, a GP based at MC Medical Docklands and Dr. Aaron Wong, a Nuclear Medicine Radiologist based at Monash Health. While Dr Wee is a self-taught web developer who built the online health platform, his co-founder Dr. Wong is passionate about patient education, entrepreneurship and product development. With both their skills and expertise combined, the doctor-duo created HealthStencil.com to bring in a revolutionising change in the memory for medical information.

I'm sorry David but you've completely misunderstood what this initiative is all about.

You call it a "Digital Health" initiative, but a Google search shows that the site doesn't mention "Digital Health" once, and neither does the media release.

It's a Health Plan and Communication app, so its about helping doctors and patients and delivering better healthcare.

David, this product seems very similar to the Cartulahealth.com system described by Bill Vargus on the PulseIT webinar yesterday.

Perhaps we are witnessing the emergence of a 'new wave' of products which are attempting to streamline clinical communications and information exchange between patients, their doctors and hospitals.
