This Looks Like Another Rather Pathetic Attempt From The ADHA To Make The #myHeathRecord More Relevant Than It Is!

I spotted this last week:

Managing COVID-19 vaccine data in My Health Record: essential information for general practice

16 March 2021

NWMPHN Primary Health Care Improvement team

The Australian Government has announced that it is mandatory under the Australian Immunisation Register Act 2015 to report all COVID-Vaccine encounters to the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR).

From July 2021, it will be mandatory for all immunisation encounters to be uploaded.

You can record information on the AIR:

More information on accessing the AIR and preparing your practice to administer COVID-19 vaccines is available on our website.

Covid-19 vaccination status to be available through My Health Record

The Australian Digital Health Agency has recently upgraded the My Health Record system to support the Australian Government’s COVID-19 vaccination program. This includes:

  • an on-screen alert for the second COVID-19 vaccination due date (if the first vaccination has been given)
  • immunisation history from the AIR and the individual’s record (currently available within shared health summaries and event summaries) that can be filtered by source

This information is available in the immunisation view of the My Health Record National Provider Portal.

For those accessing the immunisation view through a clinical information system (such as Best Practice, MedicalDirector, Genie or Zedmed) the information will still be available in the Medicare Overview.

Are you yet to register for My Health Record?

Health care professionals looking to get ready and register for My Health Record can view an overview diagram or follow the following steps.

  1. Register for PRODA and link to HPOS.
  2. Registering your organisation for My Health Record using HPOS.
  3. Request and download NASH PKI Organisation Certificate.
  4. Obtain all the HPI-I’s of your colleagues in your organisation (if they wish to use My Health Record).
  5. Speak to your software vendor to have My Health Record access enabled.

Does your practice need assistance?

Please contact the Primary Health Care Improvement team if you need assistance on 03 9347 1188 or primarycare@nwmphn.org.au

What this says to me is that to record immunizations you use the Aust. Immunisation Register and that any patient can look up their entire immunisation record and print it out from myGov and Medicare.

How do I access the Australian Immunisation register?

They can do this:

  1. Online, by setting up their own myGov account and then accessing their Medicare online account.
  2. through the Express Plus Medicare mobile app.
  3. by calling the AIR enquiries line. ...
  4. by asking their doctor or immunisation provider to print a copy for them.

In each case the #myHealthRecord will have the data – as a copy – but it is not recorded from the #myHR – it is just a look up function!

As always the #myHR is an appendage and not the main game.

Why does the ADHA and the PHNs keep suggesting it is central when it isn't I wonder?  Because it is a total waste of space and they are trying to justify spending $2 Billion + on a lemon? I have no idea!

Do not worry G Carter, as you know we can draw on people to claim the My Health Record was instrumental in the successful vaccination of the nation. Without it I really would not have been able to determine if it was safe to administer - by being able to lookup a patient my health record gave me all their health information in a easily accessed and readable form....blah blah...

Sadly ADHA Staffer is 100% correct. We have witnessed it time and time again. Wonder when it will play a pivotal role in managing the health of the Great Barrier Reef?
