Just had a short conversation with one of the multiple little sources of information within NEHTA.
Seems management thinks only a few people a day bother reading.
That seems to be a bit different from what I see.

Why would they bother dropping by, and why would I bother, if there was not something useful one wonders?
Maybe the spin doctors could point this out – on the main page and live!

Happy New Year in denial Peter, NEHTA spindoctors and all the others who think that a great job is being done! There are a few experts who simply don't agree.

It is beyond comprehension that NEHTA, or for that matter any health bureaucrat from the Minister(s) for Health downwards, are not aware of your blog. It has been a powerful and relatively balanced voice for a number of years focusing on ehealth issues in Australia and in particular on NEHTA, and t the same time providing valuable world wide coverage of developments and trends internationally.
Further, that NEHTA's management is unaware of your blog (or does not believe it exists)raises all sorts of questions.
Why have NEHTA's 'people' not made senior management acutely aware of your blog? Have they attempted to do so and simply encountered deaf ostrich ears full of sand? Have they attempted to do so and found NEHTA's senior management so out of touch with the real world that they have given up in despair? Have they not done so for fear of being considered too troublesome to retain their services? Oh, so many questions and possibilities. There can however be only one conclusion - if NEHTA's senior management and its Board do not believe your blog exists and is followed closely by a wide cross-section of the health and IT communities then NEHTA is perhaps the one which does not (or should not) exist.
Are these people stupid, ignorant or just plain dumb? Amazing.
David, you must have been misinformed. It's just not possible, no-one at the top of NEHTA could be unaware of your writings.
You should ask Peter Flemming. Give him a call. He might welcome your opinion.
I agree with commentator January 07, 2010 8:22:00 AM - too many people read aushealthit.blogspot for NEHTA's senior people not to be fully aware of its existence.
Sorry if I misled. What I was saying, I thought, was that while management was probably aware of the blog they thought there were so few readers it was of no consequence and did not reflect any useful views.
I was arguing that with the reach it seems to have and the range of conversations that happen in the comments that there was quite a reasonable level of engagement of those who both agree and disagree with the stands I take.
I think this is an unalloyed good and that providing the forum for discussion etc is worthwhile.
David.
David,
Quite amusing to compare NEHTA's own website ranking versus your blog.
According to the Alexa ranking system (www.alexa.com):
Aushealthit.blogspot.com: Ranked at 1,234,964 in the world and rising
www.nehta.gov.au: Ranked at 4,988,973 and dropping
Maybe NEHTA would like to pretend your website doesn't exist, as we turn to your website for valuable information on eHealth way more often than going to the NEHTA spin-machine!!!
What a perfect example of doublethink that characterises the Orwellian world that is the inner workings of NEHTA.
From my experience your sources are correct in that NEHTA's management would like to believe, and would like everyone to believe, that no one reads your blog. I recall that it didn't stop them getting their knickers in a twist everytime you posted something that revealed the true state of NEHTA though.
It's not about popularity. It's about influence and power.
The views expressed here are instructive, if only to see how real little understanding there is amongst most participants of the reality of navigating the political minefield of Australian eHealth policy!

If you are so in touch with this reality maybe you could write a short blog, which I will happily post unedited, to explain all this to us all.
Otherwise I think we are entitled to think this is an arrogant selfsatisfied rant!
Look forward to your contribution!

Hey -those of us who work at the coalface, actually building and implementing e-health systems regard this blog as a very useful career development tool - it is the health informatics course we all wish existed. Online learning, keeping us up to date...BTW, Dr More's blog is usually the portal that leads me in to nehta look at nehta's site. It would be interesting to see how many people arrive at the nehta site via this blog...Are you sure you don't work for nehta David?
Not last I checked - !
I just checked the out-clicks list and NEHTA does not seem to feature in the top 100.
David.
