My Health Record opt-out period from July 16 to October 15, 2018
The window for Australians to opt out of an electronic health record has been announced by the government.

Australians will have from July 16 to October 15, 2018, to opt out of having an electronic health record.
Those choosing not to have a My Health Record can opt out at the My Health Record website or by calling 1800 723 471. So far, 5.7 million people are in the system.
"The protection of patient information is critical, and the My Health Record system has strong safeguards in place to protect the health data. It is also subject to some of the strongest legislation in the world to prevent unauthorised use," the Australian Digital Health Agency said in a blog post.
"Australians can cancel their My Health Record at any time after the end of the opt-out period -- or create one, if they opted out."

I think as someone posted a few weeks ago. We can now move on and get in with healthcare issues. They now have to demonstrate what these real health benefits are. No more excuses.
Apart from the dates, there's nothing much in the media release. There's the usual exaggerations, misinformation and unproven claims. I wonder how many consumers will activate their record and start giving the government some of their health data to match up with the billing data. It looks like myhr is on course for a long slow, unwanted, unneeded, sad, death. RIP.
I might be reading this wrong but the information seems to indicate that you record can also be activated by a health provider uploading stuff

The new records will be activated when individuals login for the first time or when healthcare providers access records in treating their patients. Two years of Medicare and PBS data will be uploaded, unless an individual chooses not to include this information.
So the little mechanism for government here is that systems, particularly hospital as I understand just send the HR system everything. Or are there now practices in place where patients are asked and hospital staff carefully check and recheck that a patients wished are being met?
The trick for ADHA will be to not simply become a small little wheel in the machinery of government. If they go down a path of become like a department with all its rules and regulations and closed shop constraints then they will be unable to co-design anything. That was always the problem the eHealth branch of the department had.
